Patras World Poetry Festival

DECEMBER 10th - 13th 2020

We would like to inform you that due to the implementation of a new lockdown in our country and the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the organizing and scientific committee of the “Jean Moréas International Awards” and the Patras International Poetry Festival postpones the date of the event on December, 10-13 of 2020.

Digital Event

The Patras World Poetry Festival 2020 this year is entitled "National Poets" and plans to host 60 poets from 15 different countries around the world.

This year the festival be held online and virtually, as far as COVID-19 impact affects significantly the implementation of this event.

In the four-day online event there will be 6 meetings lasting up to 3 hours, where the guest poets will be presented with readings in 2 languages, via live connection. The events will be attended by invited representatives of institutions and the jury, while the program will include speeches, presentations, tributes, music, etc.

In addition, the following activities will take place within the schedule of the Festival events:

online Award of the annual Greek Poetry Awards "Jean Moréas" (Saturday December 12th)
Art Exhibition "National Poets" with the participation of 20 Greek artists and 10 artists from different countries (live and digital tour)
Collectible trilingual edition of the poems of the participants, in the first language of each artist, in Greek and English

The 3rd Patras World Poetry Festival 2020 is organized by the Poetry Fountation “Grafeion Poiiseos”, the literary website Culture Book (culturebook.gr) and the multicultural center Epikentro Plus History & Arts, while every year it is under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism*. Supporters of the event are the Greek Library of London, the Cultural Center “Kostis Palamas”, the University of Western Macedonia, the Hellenic Open University and many other important institutions, as claimed under the Aegis of the President of the Hellenic Republic.

Awarding of Poetry Awards "Jean Moréas" for the year 2019

This annual event will be held digitally at one session of the PWPF Poetry Event 2020, with a presentation of the award-winning poets and recitations by them. This is the annual event during which the "Jean Moréas" Prizes are awarded for Greek poetic art and Greek poetic production in its entire range. They are recognizable nationwide and concern the poetry collections that were published throughout the previous calendar year from the year of the award. They refer both to young poets and newcomers and to those who are recognized with their poetic work along time.

The event is highly appreciated by the Greek literary and artistic circle of readers. In this year's event, in addition to the institutionalized awards, a very important foreign poet will be honored, who with his/her lifelong work honors the literature outside Greece.The Award Committee is composed of Greek University professors, as well as very important poets and poetry critics who will evaluate the work of the honorees.

…I am cold
while around me
flames dance
instead of pain
the tooth is missing
it lies opposite
on the demolished roof
together with more
baby-teeth
the lye on the hair
turns termites into ashes
termites that carry
full moon buttons
seal holes
by stopping cries
mint dries up
a memory of green
soap in the eyes
from washing a child
while the waiting
for a resurrection
floods the eyes
I sewed up the womb
I sew on the pockets
every small opening
for the heirs to find
something to burry
I am cold
while all around me
flames dance

TERMITES DANCE

XXX

…κρυώνω
ενώ γύρω μου
χορεύουν φλόγες,
στη θέση του πόνου
λείπει το δόντι
κείτεται απέναντι
στη γκρεμισμένη στέγη
μαζί με άλλα
δόντια βρεφικά,
η αλισίβα στα μαλλιά
σταχτώνει τους τερμίτες
που κουβαλούν
κουμπιά πανσέληνα
βουλώνουν τρύπες
σταματώντας τις κραυγές
της εξαΰλωσης,
ξεραίνονται οι δυόσμοι
θύμηση πράσινου
σαπουνιού στα μάτια
από λούσιμο παιδικό
στην αναμονή
μιας ανάστασης,
έραψα τη μήτρα
ράβω τις τσέπες
κάθε μικρό μου άνοιγμα
να βρουν κάτι να θάψουν
οι κληρονόμοι,
κρυώνω
ενώ γύρω μου
χορεύουν φλόγες…

…I am talking to you
about blue
green horses
for red temptations
and gentle pale winds
I am talking to you about our veins
the common ones , suffering from thrombosis
because of inexorable
medical acts
for the absence of wind on the sails
and we laugh drinking
from the same storage-jar new wine
we listen by the sea-shell
to the whistling of the ocean
growing in extent
the winter shiver
we are wearing masks
for the seed offspring
modesty and agony prevail
not to show the marks on the body
at the summer beaches
marks from the unique battles
on the five threshing floors
and we continue strongly
erasing days
on the wall-diary
while we experience
the sweet dizziness of victory
until at a certain moment I show you
the depth of the horizon
where lies in wait a cloudless weather
and we all say with one voice
to our health…

…σου μιλάω
για γαλάζια
πράσινα άλογα
για κόκκινους πειρασμούς
κι αύρες χλωμές,
σου λέω για τις φλέβες μας
τις κοινές, τις θρομβωμένες
απ' αδυσώπητες
πράξεις ιατρικές ,
για την απουσία ανέμου στα πανιά
και γελάμε πίνοντας
απ' το ίδιο κιούπι μούστο,
ακούμε στο κοχύλι
το σφύριγμα του ωκεανού
φουντώνοντας
ακόμα και στα ρίγη του χειμώνα,
φοράμε μάσκα
για τη γύρη της άνοιξης,
συστολή κι αγωνία
μη φανούν τα σημάδια του κορμιού
στις παραλίες του καλοκαιριού
απ' τις απαράμιλλες μάχες
στα πέντε αλώνια,
και συνεχίζουμε δυνατά
σβήνοντας μέρες
στο ημερολόγιο του τοίχου
ενώ βρισκόμαστε
στη γλυκιά παραζάλη της νίκης,
μέχρι κάποια στιγμή σου δείχνω
το βάθος του ορίζοντα
όπου καραδοκεί αιθρία
και λέμε με μια φωνή
στην υγειά μας…

The Poet

Popi Aroniada: I am a member of the Administration Board of the Poets Circle in Greece. I have also published six books. . My first poetry collection, "Raw Light", self-published in 2009, was followed by "Mystagogy" in 2013, "Sighs of the East", a collection of haiku published in 2014 by 'The poems of friends' in 2014, and"Webs of deep truth" published by 'Gavriilides' in 2015. My poetic collection "Ουλές/Scars", with an English translation by Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke, was published by 'To Rodakio' in September 2016. My collection "Ουλές/Scars" was in the first ten books of Public prizes selected by readers.
My first novel "The Twins" was published by "To Rodakio" in March 2018. Another poetic collection "Ροκέ/Casling in a special form by "To Rodakio" in Oktober 2019.

Πόπη Αρωνιάδα: Είμαι μέλος του Δ.Σ του Κύκλο Ποιητών. Έχω εκδώσει έξι βιβλία. Πρώτη ποιητική συλλογή «Ωμό Φως» αυτοέκδοση το 2009. Ακολούθησαν: η «Μυσταγωγία» το 2013 και οι «Στεναγμοί Ανατολής» συλλογή από Χαϊκού το 2014 από τις εκδόσεις 'Τα ποιήματα των φίλων'. Το 2015 εκδόθηκε το «Ιστοί βαθιάς αλήθειας» από τις εκδόσεις Γαβριηλίδη. Η δίγλωσση ποιητική συλλογή «Ουλές/Scars» μεταφρασμένη από την Κατερίνα Αγγελάκη Ρουκ, από τις εκδόσεις 'Το Ροδακιό' κυκλοφόρησε το Σεπτέμβριο 2016. Η συλλογή μου «Ουλές/Scars» βρέθηκε στην δεκάδα των βραβείων Public. Τον Μάρτιο του 2018 εκδόθηκε το πρώτο μου μυθιστόρημα «Οι Δίδυμες» από τις εκδόσεις " Το Ροδακιό". «Ροκέ» από τις εκδόσεις «Το Ροδακιό» βγήκε τον Οκτώβριο του 2019 σε ιδιαίτερη μορφή.
