Digital Event

The Patras World Poetry Festival 2020 this year is entitled "National Poets" and plans to host 60 poets from 15 different countries around the world.

This year the festival  be held online and virtually, as far as COVID-19 impact affects significantly the implementation of this event.

In the four-day online event there will be 6 meetings lasting up to 3 hours, where the guest poets will be presented with readings in 2 languages, via live connection. The events will be attended by invited representatives of institutions and the jury, while the program will include speeches, presentations, tributes, music, etc.

In addition, the following activities will take place within the schedule of the Festival events:

The 3rd Patras World Poetry Festival 2020 is organized by the Poetry Fountation “Grafeion Poiiseos”, the literary website Culture Book (culturebook.gr) and the multicultural center Epikentro Plus History & Arts, while every year it is under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism*. Supporters of the event are the Greek Library of London, the Cultural Center “Kostis Palamas”, the University of Western Macedonia, the Hellenic Open University and many other important institutions, as claimed under the Aegis of the President of the Hellenic Republic.

Awarding of Poetry Awards "Jean Moréas" for the year 2019

This annual event will be held digitally at one session of the PWPF Poetry Event 2020, with a presentation of the award-winning poets and recitations by them. This is the annual event during which the "Jean Moréas" Prizes are awarded for Greek poetic art and Greek poetic production in its entire range. They are recognizable nationwide and concern the poetry collections that were published throughout the previous calendar year from the year of the award. They refer both to young poets and newcomers and to those who are recognized with their poetic work along time.

The event is highly appreciated by the Greek literary and artistic circle of readers. In this year's event, in addition to the institutionalized awards, a very important foreign poet will be honored, who with his/her lifelong work honors the literature outside Greece. The Award Committee is composed of Greek University professors, as well as very important poets and poetry critics who will evaluate the work of the honorees.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the organizing committee.

Kotopoulos H. Triantafyllos, President of the “Patras World Poetry Festival”

Skiathas D. Antonis, President of the Poetry Fountation “Grafeion Poiiseos”

Alaniadi Maria, Event Manager of the “Patras World Poetry Festival”

The Poems

four rivers

a man with scars on his chest takes
a smouldering branch of elder in his hand
the mountains part and their coldness
runs down my body
there're four rivers meeting here three
live ones and a dead one the laptop
in the wet sand making a nearly
imperceptible sound
reminiscent of the wind's rustle
i sit at a tray with a translucent apple and
with a swarm of bees behind my back it's all
in everything you say there're four pearls
on your forehead three black and a white one

every situation we decide
to live through really
brings us back to the world
to crevices and apertures
in the dark we become part
of the territory but the territory resists
motionlessness it towers and churns

čtyři řeky

muž s jizvami na hrudi bere
do ruky doutnající větev bezu
hory se rozestupují a jejich chlad
mi projíždí celým tělem
setkávají se tady čtyři řeky tři
živé a jedna mrtvá laptop
ve vlhkém písku vydává skoro
nepostřehnutelný zvuk
který připomíná šumění větru
sedím u tácu s průsvitným jablkem a
za zády mám včelí roj všechno
je ve všem říkáš na čele máš čtyři
perly tři černé a jednu bílou

každá situace kterou se
rozhodneme doopravdy prožít
nás přivádí zpátky ke světu
k trhlinám a otvorům
ve tmě stáváme se součástí
území ale území samo vzdoruje
nehybnosti vzpíná se a víří

cornelian

a well-wrought cornelian hung
at the entrance door protects the home
from a lightning strike

a home that moves but
departs from other principles the situations
of return have no more outlines
of the door it's about how you sit
at the fireplace in the details of gestures and faces
distances touches
the days are getting shorter now and it's important
to keep the matters of the heart

the steppe is wobbly shaky
with hot air i cover
one eye so i could see
all i need
a cornelian amulet
wrapped around my wrist

the inside and outside mingle
here the hand runs over tea
kettle the monitor becomes extinguished

out of the broken silence
crow cawing can be heard we go
where we remember the landslides
the topography vanishes in the dark

the days are getting shorter now it's
important to keep the matters of the heart in the sparse
grass a sugar cube dissolves

karneol

opracovaný karneol pověšený
u vchodových dveří chrání domov
před úderem blesku

domov který se pohybuje ale
vychází z jiných principů situace
návratu už nemají obrys
dveří je to v tom jak si sedáš
k ohništi v detailech gest a tváří
vzdálenostech doteků
dny se teď zkracují a je důležité
udržovat věci srdce

step je vratká rozechvělá
horkým vzduchem zakrývám
si jedno oko abych viděl
všechno co potřebuju
amulet z karneolu mám
omotaný kolem zápěstí

vnitřek a vnějšek se tady
prolínají ruka přejede po čajové
konvici monitor zhasíná

ze zlomeného ticha je slyšet
křik vrány jdeme tam
kde si pamatujeme sesuvy svahů
reliéf mizí ve tmě

dny se teď zkracují je
důležité udržovat věci srdce v řídké
trávě se rozpouští kostka cukru
