Awarding of Poetry Awards "Jean Moréas" for the year 2019

This annual event will be held digitally at one session of the PWPF Poetry Event 2020, with a presentation of the award-winning poets and recitations by them. This is the annual event during which the "Jean Moréas" Prizes are awarded for Greek poetic art and Greek poetic production in its entire range. They are recognizable nationwide and concern the poetry collections that were published throughout the previous calendar year from the year of the award. They refer both to young poets and newcomers and to those who are recognized with their poetic work along time.

The event is highly appreciated by the Greek literary and artistic circle of readers. In this year's event, in addition to the institutionalized awards, a very important foreign poet will be honored, who with his/her lifelong work honors the literature outside Greece. The Award Committee is composed of Greek University professors, as well as very important poets and poetry critics who will evaluate the work of the honorees.

The Poems

And if we mated in forbidden beds
If in a state of rupture we succumbed
to debauchery, to impudence

If we foolishly pretended
on weak flesh
we promised wedding wreaths
and engagements
or we unjustly humiliated lovers

Now that we have lost the battle
On foot we return
Attractive as well as inglorious
probably looking for a miracle

We lack of acknowledgement…
we're not the first
nor the last
romantic and so young

We pay the Fate so as to have
leftovers of another Waterloo.

* * *

The cities die out, they are defeated
attractive teenagers and nations.
They are declared innocent,
they have gone missing young girls in love.

Those who escaped, idols which are broken,
they persistently remember
and long for red lips,
two blue eyes
along with the eyelashes,
the tender cheeks of a damsel.

Body in sin you triumph,
I want to forget you,
but I cannot.

And you mouth, luscious,
that I kissed a thousand times,
Carmen, Maria, Dolores
with so much passion, with so much pleasure

how infinite the abyss that separates us
what naked justice unites us?

Like a Boeing 777
flies the flesh and crashes.
What fusillades, what festivities?

And the spirit in the form of a dove
dives low, eating his Existence.

(Fighting Under a Shadow... Elegy and Satires, Perispomeni, 2017)

ποιά γυμνὴ δικαιοσύνη μᾶς ἑνώνει;

Σὰν Boeing 777
Τί ὁμοβροντίες, τί πανηγυρικοί;
