The Poems

i have seen the burning bones and spiraling ash  |  spinning emblem of a
rediscovered rite  |  the extinct deities are in our charge now  |  they continue
speaking  |  speaking to us  |  earth words  |  isthmus tongue  |  union cord
embrace tie seam link  |  all the words that mean
hand
or
undergrowth

she cuts open lip seams
her fine silver scissors
crunch clean through the cord
that stops the cry in the throat
the unseamstress carries no needle
with two clean wrinkled fingers
she lifts the huge stone from the cave mouth
revealing the wetness of the unnamed
her duty is not to obstruct
nor to seal off this well
with a sharp flash of her blade
the unseamstress lights
the true depth of the cavern
and in go the savage sisters
who by the light of new words
write their names on the rock

*
