The Poems

CONFUSION IN THE AIR

As if it's late morning
sliding,
she holds the book
at this hour, which is the siesta hour
of all the neighbors,
and so,
she plans to reread some lines,
announces it without much conviction
while looking out of the window.

In the background,
far away and protected by branches,
the sky lifts itself effortlessly.
Each branch of the tree hides it and draws it,
while she slowly inclines her head,
time and time again
the wind approaches.
It stops for a moment
and the tree recovers its shape.

ΣΥΓΧΥΣΗ ΣΤΟΝ ΑΕΡΑ

Σαν να είναι αργά το πρωί
γλιστρώντας,
κρατάει το βιβλίο
αυτή την ώρα, που είναι η ώρα της σιέστας
όλων των γειτόνων,
και έτσι,
σκοπεύει να ξαναδιαβάσει μερικές γραμμές,
το ανακοινώνει χωρίς ιδιαίτερη πεποίθηση
ενώ κοιτάζει έξω από το παράθυρο.

Στο παρασκήνιο,
μακριά και προστατευμένο από κλαδιά,
ο ουρανός υψώνεται ανέμελα.
Κάθε κλαδί του δέντρου τον κρύβει και τον ζωγραφίζει,
ενώ εκείνη γέρνει αργά το κεφάλι της,
ξανά και ξανά
ο άνεμος πλησιάζει.
Σταματάει για μια στιγμή
και το δέντρο ξαναβρίσκει το σχήμα του.

WALT WHITMAN

Because at some point he mentioned frontiers
knowing that frontiers do not exist
and that nothing was certain, not even simple, non-existent things,
I celebrate Walt Whitman and I lose myself in his voice
because it's easier to know he's near to be able to abandon him
inventing another dialogue of forthcoming abandonments
or proximities more fitting to the celebration of time.

Song of himself, I sing myself
and take possession of myself, of those who come
because you asked for it and I believe in myself
and in my time of vain sorrow and death,
and in the so vain future of the many lives I will not live.

I am not original, as you said, and I shall never be either, because it means nothing.
Because we talk about the sea, and touch the sea, and travel to the sea,
because everything is dryness
and we see what we can of the past and the present.

Because we did not know the true river or the real man
and we jumped into the manure and built on it.
Because we throw discourses onto the wet earth and onto the dry earth,
and ask ourselves questions so we can think about time, because time disturbs us.
I'm saying it so that you can celebrate it.

Incorrigible melody!
You touch my ear although I did not ask it.
I have always known it and it does not make me happy.
You attained happiness by inviting your soul to observe a leaf of grass in summer.
We observe the leaves in only one season
and we're blind to mystery.
We don't have your assurance, Walt Whitman.
We have outdone you in death.

Επειδή κάποια στιγμή αυτός ανέφερε τα όρια
γνωρίζοντας ότι τα όρια δεν υπάρχουν
και ότι τίποτα δεν είναι βέβαιο, ούτε καν τα απλά, ανύπαρκτα πράγματα,
γιορτάζω τον Γουόλτ Γουίτμαν και χάνω τον εαυτό μου στη φωνή του
γιατί είναι πιο εύκολο να ξέρεις ότι βρίσκεται κοντά σου κάποιος για να μπορέσεις να τον εγκαταλείψεις
εφευρίσκοντας έναν άλλο διάλογο επικείμενης εγκατάλειψης
ή προσεγγίσεις που ταιριάζουν περισσότερο στον εορτασμό του χρόνου.

Δικό του τραγούδι, τραγουδάω στον εαυτό μου
και παίρνω στην κατοχή μου τον εαυτό μου, από αυτούς που έρχονται
γιατί το ζήτησες και πιστεύω στον εαυτό μου.
και στον καιρό της μάταιης θλίψης και του θανάτου μου,
και στο τόσο μάταιο μέλλον των πολλών ζωών που δεν θα ζήσω.

Δεν είμαι πρωτότυπος, όπως είπατε, και δεν θα γίνω ποτέ ούτε εγώ, γιατί δεν σημαίνει και κάτι σπουδαίο.
Γιατί μιλάμε για τη θάλασσα, και αγγίζουμε τη θάλασσα, και ταξιδεύουμε στη θάλασσα,
γιατί τα πάντα είναι στεριά...
και αντικρίζουμε ό,τι μπορούμε από το παρελθόν και το παρόν.

Επειδή δεν γνωρίσαμε το αυθεντικό ποτάμι ή τον αληθινό άνθρωπο
και πηδήξαμε στην κοπριά και χτίσαμε πάνω της.
Επειδή ρίχνουμε λόγους πάνω στην υγρή γη και πάνω στην ξερή γη,
και κάνουμε ερωτήσεις στον εαυτό μας για να σκεφτούμε τον χρόνο, γιατί ο χρόνος μας ενοχλεί.
Το λέω για να μπορείτε να το γιορτάσετε.

Αδιόρθωτη μελωδία!
Αγγίζεις το αυτί μου παρόλο που δεν στο ζητώ.
Πάντα το ήξερα μα δεν με κάνει ευτυχισμένο.
Πέτυχες την ευτυχία προσκαλώντας την ψυχή σου να παρατηρήσει ένα φύλλο από χορτάρι το καλοκαίρι.
Παρατηρούμε τα φύλλα μόνο μια εποχή.
και είμαστε τυφλοί στο μυστήριο.
Δεν έχουμε τη βεβαιότητά σου, Γουόλτ Γουίτμαν.

The Poet

Tallulah Florez Prieto (Barranquilla, Colombia, 1957). Started high school at Marymount in her hometown, and graduated from Liceul C.A. Rossetti, Romania. Has an Undergraduate Degree in Education (Javeriana University); a Postgraduate Certificate in Pedagogy of the Written Language (El Bosque University), and a Master of Science from Buffalo College.She was professor in Social Communication at the Universidad del Norte.Poetry books: Poesía para armar, Voces del Tiempo, Cinematográfica, Voces del tiempo y otros poemas, El revés de la caída, Nombrar las voces, and Poemas ocultos. Participation in anthologies: Oír ese río (Charpentier, Steenkist); Como llama que se eleva (Exilio); Poetas colombianas (Externado de Colombia); Poesía Colombiana (Confabulación); Un país que sueña (Embajada de Colombia, Lisboa); Caravelle, Cahiers du monde hispanique (France).
Awards and recognitions from: The Journalists' Association of the Atlantic Coast; the Universidad Simón Bolívar, The Business Association of Barranquilla, and The Orient-Occident International Poetry Festival of Curtea de Arges. Co-founder of the International Poetry Festival of Barranquilla (PoeMaRío).She is currently a professor of Literature at the Hebrew School in Medellin in addition to working as a proofreader.

Ταλούλα Φλόρεζ Πριέτο ( Μπαρανκίγια, Κολομβία, 1957). Ξεκίνησε το λύκειο στο Μαριμάουντ της γενέτειράς της και αποφοίτησε από το λύκειο Liceul C.A. Rossetti της Ρουμανίας. Έχει προπτυχιακό δίπλωμα στην εκπαίδευση (Πανεπιστήμιο Χαβεριάνα)- μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα στην Παιδαγωγική του γραπτού λόγου (Πανεπιστήμιο Ελ Μπόσκε) και μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα από το Κολέγιο Μπάφαλο. Ήταν καθηγήτρια στην κοινωνική επικοινωνία στο Universidad del Norte.
