THE EMPTY POEM

I Wanted to write about the sun.
They darkened it.
I wanted to write about the tree.
They uprooted it.
I wanted to write about the earth.
They levelled it.
I wanted to write about the sea.
They bloodied it.
I wanted to write about the city.
They ruined it.
I wanted to write about the house.
They razed it.
I wanted to write about the man.
They slaughtered him.

Alright
we wanted abstraction in poetry.
Well, not that much.

ΤΟ ΑΔΕΙΟ ΠΟΙΗΜΑ

Είπα να γράψω για τον ήλιο.
Τον σκοτείνιασαν.
Είπα να γράψω για το δέντρο.
Το ξερίζωσαν.
Είπα να γράψω για τη γη.
Την ισοπέδωσαν.
Είπα να γράψω για τη θάλασσα.
Τη μάτωσαν.
Είπα να γράψω για την πόλη.
Την ερήμωσαν.
Είπα να γράψω για το σπίτι.
Το ερείπωσαν
Είπα να γράψω για τον άνθρωπο.
Τον θέρισαν.

Εντάξει
είπαμε αφαίρεση στην ποίηση.
Ε, όχι κι έτσι!

VOLUNTARY

I know a poem
that never walked.
They often moved it around at night
in a plastic trolley
with damaged brakes.
It wasn't a poem
but a funery bird.
It wore esoteric fires
it could paint the entire house
with its blood.
A mirror shattered at his wake.
I still see it poke into the cracks
to reach the other side
and touch the shadows of the survivors.
If it had legs
it would cross impossibilities.
If it had a sharp knife
it would scratch the wounds of the Symplegades..
It didn't have.
It didn't own.
It surrendered..
At the border
it was handcuffed by the time.
I know a poem
sentenced for life.
They found it hanged in a drawer.

ΕΘΕΛΟΥΣΙΑ

Ξέρω ένα ποίημα
που ποτέ του δεν περπάτησε.
Το περιέφεραν τις νύχτες ταχτικά
σ' ένα καρότσι πλαστικό
με πειραγμένα φρένα.
Δεν ήταν ποίημα
ήταν πένθιμο πουλί.
Φορούσε απόκρυφες φωτιές
έβαφε με το αίμα του
ολόκληρο το σπίτι.
Ένας καθρέφτης ράγισε στο διάβα του.
Το βλέπω ακόμα να σκαλίζει τις ρωγμές
να βγει από την άλλη στ' ανοιχτά
ν' αγγίξει τις σκιές των επιζώντων.
Αν είχε πόδια
θα διέσχιζε το αδύνατο.
Αν είχε ένα μαχαίρι κοφτερό
θα 'ξυνε τις πληγές των Συμπληγάδων.
Δεν είχε.
Δεν κατείχε..
Παραδόθηκε.
Στα σύνορα
του πέρασε ο χρόνος χειροπέδες.
Ξέρω ένα ποίημα
δικασμένο σε ισόβια.
Το βρήκαν κρεμασμένο στο συρτάρι.

The Poet

Haris Melitas comes from the island of Kythira and was born in Athens. He is an architect and professor at the Higher Pedagogical and Technological School
of Education. He has published 15 collections of poetry, a collection of short stories, as well as an abridget version of History of Art and Technology. He has been awarded for his poetry, short stories writing and haiku, by the Academy of Athens, the literary society ''Parnassos'' and the Macedonian ''Art of Kilkis'' society. He has also presented poets in Societies, Municipalities and at the Patras Poetic Symposium. His work was presented in 2011 by the poet and publisher Kostas Kremmydas at the 31st Poetic Symposium of the University of Patras and in 2014 he was presented by the poet Yannis Tzanis at the ''Philologist'', the association of Philologists of Thessaloniki. He is a member of the Poets Circle.

Ο Χάρης Μελιτάς γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. αλλά έλκει την καταγωγή του από τα Κύθηρα. Αρχιτέκτων Μηχανικός του Ε.Μ.Π. και καθηγητής της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Παιδαγωγικής και Τεχνολογικής Εκπαίδευσης (Α.Σ.ΠΑΙ.Τ.Ε.). Εξέδωσε 15 ποιητικές συλλογές, μία συλλογή διηγημάτων και μία επίτομη Ιστορία της Τέχνης και της Τεχνολογίας. Βραβεύτηκε στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό από πολιτιστικούς φορείς, την Ακαδημία Αθηνών, τον Παρνασσό και την Μακεδονική Καλλιτεχνική Εταιρεία Τέχνη του Κιλικίς, για την ποίηση, το διήγημα και τα χαϊκού. Παρουσίασε ποιητές σε Εταιρείες, Δήμους και στο Ποιητικό Συμπόσιο των Πατρών. Το έργο του παρουσιάστηκε το 2011 στο 31ο Ποιητικό Συμπόσιο του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών από τον ποιητή και εκδότη Κώστα Κρεμμύδα και το 2014 στον σύλλογο Φιλολόγων Θεσσαλονίκης ''Ο Φιλόλογος'' από τον ποιητή Γιάννη Τζανή. Είναι μέλος του Κύκλου Ποιητών.
