IF YOU KNOW THE TASTΕ OF FEAR

The land is an island and its concern
Late in the afternoon
you are dressing a girl in a pink dress without her wings
And yet she flies
in every frame in the living room
Persistently as you stare at her
you are returning from gardens blossoming in the marrow of heaven.
You are placing the spoils of euphoria in the vase one by one
Cool and crystal midsummer
to drink them with a childish greedy look
But they break again and again in the mourning of a sea
as innocence is shattered by its ignorance
It opens unexpectedly like a black shell
a fate that dozes at the doorstep
like a sworn and faithful enemy
A north window looted
overturns the straight line of the mind
it shatters it
it dances crucified by nailed and heavy memories
Refusal is a wild witch
It throws the heart to the floor
a soul and a crumb
a crumb and a soul
You carefully pick up the leftovers
Have you ever seen how the fingers bleed
by some broken sunrays?
Murdered windows with reflection on the floor
And on the tiles a grave and a eulogy of colours

Then comes the rain
Then there is always a rain
All night long
not been able to soak the fear
You bite it
and break your future

ΑΝ ΓΝΩΡΙΖΕΙΣ ΤΙ ΓΕΥΣΗ ΕΧΕΙ Ο ΦΟΒΟΣ

Είναι νησί ο τόπος και η έγνοια του
Αργά το απόγευμα
ντύνεις με ροζ φουστάνι ένα κορίτσι δίχως τα φτερά του
Κι όμως πετάει
σε κάθε κάδρο στο σαλόνι
Επίμονα σαν το κοιτάς
επιστρέφεις από κήπους που ανθίζουν στο μεδούλι του ουρανού
Τοποθετείς στο βάζο ένα ένα τα λάφυρα της ευφορίας
Δροσερά και κρύσταλλο κατακαλόκαιρο
να τα πιεις με λαίμαργο βλέμμα παιδικό
Μα σπάνε πάλι και ξανά στον θρήνο μίας θάλασσας
όπως γκρεμίζεται από την άγνοιά της η αθωότητα
Ανοίγει απρόσμενα, ίδια με μαύρο όστρακο
μια μοίρα που λαγοκοιμάται στο κατώφλι
σαν πιστός εχθρός και ορκισμένος
Παράθυρο λεηλατημένο βορινό
αναποδογυρίζει την ευθεία του μυαλού
τη θρυμματίζει
χορεύει σταυρωμένο με μνήμες πρόκες και βαριές
Άγρια μάγισσα η διάψευση
Ρίχνει την καρδιά στο πάτωμα
ψυχή και ψίχουλο
ψίχουλο και ψυχή
Περιμαζεύεις προσεκτικά τα υπολείμματα
Έχεις δει ποτέ πόσο ματώνουνε τα δάχτυλα
κάποιες σπασμένες ηλιακτίδες;
Σκοτωμένα παράθυρα με αντανάκλαση στο πάτωμα
Και τα πλακάκια τάφος και επικήδειος χρωμάτων

΄Υστερα είναι η βροχή
΄Υστερα είναι πάντα μια βροχή
Όλο το βράδυ
να μη μουλιάζει τον φόβο
Να τον δαγκώνεις
και να σπας το μέλλον σου

STAY AWAY FROM DEERS TOO

With sly glances I go past mirrors
I am anxious about the voice in the looking glass
In case it tells me that I am a tree
that has already become paper
That I have accepted to shed the leaves one by one
I adopted autumn since it was a baby child
I lullabied it until it shut my eyes in sleep
I was left once with bare branches
ancestral
without knowing that I had already a paradise
that should love me.

I lowered my glance in front of loggers
as they looked at me while they were sharpening their words
I did not resist
I am thinking that I will perhaps win another spring again
because I had left two youngsters in love
to carve on my body at some time
all the hunger of their body

Some law must punish the loggers
when they cut down to the ground the adolescence of our stature
The wisdom of loss is welcome
And the deer too
despite the beauty, the swaying in my eyes
should know that from now on I am enlisting the knowledge of the mechanisms
of my chemical reactions
They will find bitterer leaves
They are saying they are hungry
and I will say
I am no longer to be eaten

ΜΑΚΡΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΑΠΟ ΕΛΑΦΙΑ

Με κλεφτές ματιές περνάω από καθρέφτες
Αγωνιώ για τη λαλιά στο κάτοπτρο
Μήπως μου πει πως είμαι δέντρο
που ήδη έγινε χαρτί
Πώς δέχτηκα να χάσω τα φύλλα ένα ένα
Υιοθέτησα το φθινόπωρο από μωρό παιδί
Το νανούρισα μέχρι που μου έκλεισε σε ύπνο τα μάτια
Απέμεινα κάποτε με τα κλαδιά γυμνά
πρωτόπλαστα
χωρίς να ξέρω πως είχα ήδη έναν παράδεισο
που θα έπρεπε να με αγαπήσει

Λύγισα το βλέμμα μου μπροστά σε υλοτόμους
σαν με κοιτάξανε ακονίζοντας τα λόγια τους
Δεν αντιστάθηκα
Σκέφτομαι πως ίσως κερδίσω πάλι μία άνοιξη
επειδή άφησα δυο παιδιά ερωτευμένα
να χαράξουν κάποτε στο σώμα μου
όλη την πείνα του κορμιού τους

Κάποιος νόμος πρέπει να τιμωρεί τους υλοτόμους
όταν σωριάζουνε στη γη την εφηβεία του αναστήματός μας
Καλοδεχούμενη η σοφία της απώλειας
Και τα ελάφια ακόμη
παρά την ομορφιά, το λίκνισμα στα μάτια μου
να ξέρουν πως επιστρατεύω πλέον τη γνώση των μηχανισμών
των χημικών μου αντιδράσεων
Θα βρούνε φύλλα πιο πικρά
Πεινάνε λένε
κι εγώ θα πω
δεν είμαι πλέον για φάγωμα

The Poet

ELENI ARTEMIOU-FOTIADOU: She comes from Famagusta. She is an Inspector of Primary Education and a PhD candidate in Political Philosophy .She deals with poetry and prose.She has published a total of twenty-one books: eleven collections of poetry, one collection of short stories and nine books for children. Two of her children's books have been honored with the State Prize for Children's Literature of Cyprus. Her poems and short stories have been awarded in various pan-Hellenic and world literary competitions. Her poems have also been translated into English, Albanian, Italian and Spanish. Her poetic composition "Alex-inemos" won the Costa Monti Award from the Cyprus Institute of Culture. Her poetry collections "Katepeigon" (2011), "Heimeria Zali" (2017) and REM (2019) were shortlisted for the Cyprus State Awards. Her poems and short stories have been included in anthologies and collective publications or have been published on various literary websites. She has also dealt withtheatrical writing and script.Kyriakos Anayiotos was born in Limassol, Cyprus in 1958. He is a graduate of Laniteio Lyceum. In 1986 he graduated at Aachen Polytechnic University in Germany, with a degree in Architecture. In the past eighteen years he is employed at the Technical Services Department of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth. He has published three poem collections: "Like the rising wind", 2012 "Homeless and stonemason", 2015 "Hippostasio" (Livery stable), 2020

ΕΛΕΝΗ ΑΡΤΕΜΙΟΥ-ΦΩΤΙΑΔΟΥ: Κατάγεται από τηνΑμμόχωστο. Είναι Επιθεωρήτρια Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης και υποψήφια διδάκτωρ Πολιτικής Φιλοσοφίας. Ασχολείται με την ποίηση και την πεζογραφία.'Εχει εκδώσει συνολικά είκοσι ένα βιβλία: έντεκα ποιητικές συλλογές, μία συλλογή διηγημάτων και εννέα βιβλία για παιδιά. Δύο από τα παιδικά της βιβλία έχουν τιμηθεί με το Κρατικό Βραβείο Παιδικής Λογοτεχνίας Κύπρου. Ποιήματα και διηγήματά της έχουν βραβευτεί σε διάφορους πανελλήνιους και παγκόσμιους λογοτεχνικούς διαγωνισμούς. Ποιήματά της, επίσης, έχουν μεταφραστεί στα αγγλικά, αλβανικά, ιταλικά και ισπανικά.Η ποιητική της σύνθεση «Αλεξ-ήνεμος» απέσπασε το Βραβείο Κώστα Μόντη από το Ινστιτούτο Πολιτισμού Κύπρου. Οι ποιητικές της συλλογές «Κατεπείγον» (2011), «Χειμερία Ζάλη» (2017) και REM (2019)ήταν στη βραχεία λίστα των Κρατικών Βραβείων Κύπρου. Ποιήματα και διηγήματά της έχουν περιληφθεί σε ανθολογίες και συλλογικές εκδόσεις ή έχουν δημοσιευτεί σε διάφορους λογοτεχνικούς ιστότοπους. ΄Εχει ασχοληθεί, επίσης, με τη θεατρική γραφή και το σενάριο.
